NIKON D40x: Nikons newest D-SLR is the D40x, a 10.2-megapixel entry-level model that starts up in just 0.18 of a second, can shoot up to 3 fps, features an in-camera Retouch menu and provides good battery life. Estimated Street Price: $729.
CANON EOS-1D MARK III: Canons newest D-SLR, the EOS-1D Mark III, is a pro model that features 10-fps shooting at 10.1 megapixels, an AF system that can keep up, a 3.0-inch LCD monitor with live-view mode, sensor-dust remover, 300,000-shot shutter and much more. Estimated Street Price: $4,495.
PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-L1: Panasonics Lumix DMC-L1 is a 7.5-megapixel midrange model featuring a live-view monitor, optical image stabilization that works with all lenses, sensor-dust removal, a slick design and compatibility with Four Thirds System lenses. Estimated Street Price: $1,499 with 14-50mm zoom lens.
SIGMA SD14: Sigmas SD14 is a midrange model featuring the unique Foveon X3 image sensor, which captures all three primary colors at every pixel site for great sharpness and accurate colors. Unlike previous Sigma D-SLRs, the SD14 will shoot JPEG as well as RAW images, including interpolated Super Hi JPEGs at 4608 x 3072 pixels. It accepts more than 45 Sigma lenses. Estimated Street Price: $1,599.
OLYMPUS EVOLT E-510: The Olympus Evolt E-510 is a 10-megapixel entry-level model loaded with features, including sensor-shift image stabilization that works with all lenses, sensor-dust removal, quick startup, 3-fps shooting and compatibility with Four Thirds System lenses. Estimated Street Price: $799.
PENTAX K10D: Pentaxs top D-SLR, the K10D is a midrange model featuring 10.1 megapixels, built-in Shake Reduction that works with all lenses, sensor-dust removal, a weather- and dust-resistant body, a new PRIME imaging engine and a 22-bit A/D converter, the ability to shoot RAW images in Pentax PEF or Adobes DNG format, and much more. Estimated Street Price: $919.
SAMSUNG GX-10: Similar to the Pentax K10D, Samsungs 10.1-megapixel GX10 is a midrange model featuring sensor-shift image stabilization that works with all lenses, sensor-dust removal, a weather- and dust-resistant body, one-touch switch from JPEG to RAW recording, compatibility with a wide range of Pentax-mount lenses and more. Estimated Street Price: $999.
CANON EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi: The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi is a 10.1-megapixel entry-level model with built-in sensor-dust remover and excellent performance. It features Picture Styles (introduced in the higher-end EOS 5D), 0.2-second startup, 3 fps shooting and more, and accepts more than 50 Canon EF lenses. Estimated Street Price: $684.
